Murad Al-Katib – President and Chief Executive Officer
Murad Al-Katib, as President and CEO of AGT Food and Ingredients Inc., is the guiding vision in all aspects of the business, also serving on the Board of Directors. After completing a Masters from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan, Murad worked in international trade promotion for the Government of Saskatchewan before founding Saskcan Pulse Trading in 2001, providing the nucleus for AGT Foods. Over the next decade, the company has grown to become a world leader in value-added pulses, staple foods and ingredients selling to over 100 countries around the globe and with 35 manufacturing plants in 5 continents.
Murad has served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Special Crops Association and Pulse Canada and served as Chair of the Advisory Board for Small and Medium Enterprise for the Canadian Minister of International Trade. Murad also served as a member of the Panel for the Renewal of Canada’s Global Commerce Strategy. Murad is also the recipient of a number of prestigious awards including the 2012 Pulse Promoter Award from BASF and Saskatchewan Pulse Growers, the 2004 Ernst and Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year and one of 2005’s Canada's “Top 40 under 40” by the Caldwell Partners and the Globe and Mail.
In 2012, Murad was the recipient of a Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal, complementing his award of a Queen’s Saskatchewan Centennial Medal given in 2006 for Business Achievement. In 2012, Murad led AGT Foods to its second Saskatchewan ABEX Award for Saskatchewan Business of the Year, the first time a Saskatchewan company has repeated as Award Winner. He was also named to PROFITGuide Magazine’s list of the “30 Most Fabulous Entrepreneurs of the Past 30 Years” in Canada. With his varied experience at Alliance Grain, Murad has proven himself to be a strong financial and strategic business thinker, able to anticipate and mitigate the risks in international trading and commodities.
Huseyin Arslan – Executive Chairman, Board of Directors; President, the Arbel Group
Mr. Arslan, involved in the global pulses and staple foods business for over 30 years, has presided for the last 15 years as the President of the Arbel Group. In 2001, Mr. Arslan was one of the founding shareholders of Saskcan Pulse Trading providing the nucleus for AGT Foods, where he has served as a director or trustee since 2008 and Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2009. He also serves as a director of AGT subsidiaries, Durum Foods, the producer of the Arbella pasta brand, and Turkpulse, as well as of certain companies owned by the Arslan Family in Turkey. Mr. Arslan holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering from Middle East Technical University in Turkey and has over three decades of experience in the trading of agricultural and food products globally. In 2013, Mr. Arslan was selected as Executive Vice-President of the International Pulse Processors and Exporters Federation, the global pulse industry association as well as serving as the President of the Mersin Trade Commodity Exchange Council.
|Lori Ireland – Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Ireland is a Certified Management Accountant with over 15 years’ experience in Agricultural Accounting. Lori worked as an Accountant for Heartland Livestock for 3 years managing the implementation and related staff training of the livestock Feeder Finance program through Farm Credit Canada. Ms. Ireland spent the next several years in Special Crops Accounting at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (Viterra), with duties including all aspects of grain accounting as well as being appointed Project Manager for the implementation of a new Grain Accounting Reporting Package that was designed for the Grain Accounting and Marketing areas of the company. In 2002, Ms. Ireland joined Saskcan Pulse Trading as CFO and was named CFO of AGT in 2007, serving in this role to the present.
Ms. Ireland has also been on contract with the Society of Management Accountants for several years and acts as a Moderator for the Strategic Leadership Program. This position involves the mentoring of candidates as they learn various areas of management; including strategic planning, human resources management, treasury, decision making and report writing.
|Gaetan Bourassa – Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Bourassa is responsible for all merchandising, plant operations and marketing programs for AGT Foods and all subsidiaries globally. Mr. Bourassa brings nearly 20 years of experience in facility management, plant operations and merchandising activities in the global pulse industry. In 1992, after completion of his business studies, he joined the marketing team at Best Cooking Pulses, Canada's first pea splitter. Over the next 12 years, Mr. Bourassa built his pulse industry experience as General Manager of Best Cooking Pulses. In 2005, Mr. Bourassa joined Saskcan Pulse Trading, assuming the role of Vice President of Marketing and Operations in 2006. In 2009 he was named Chief Operating Officer of AGT. Mr. Bourassa has been a driving force behind establishing AGT Foods as the world leader in split and value-added pulse production and export, overseeing a program of export to over 100 countries globally. He is a proven risk manager, leading the development of new product platforms including faba beans, pulses ingredients and chickpeas.
